Creative Director

Overview

The Creative Director is responsible for overseeing all creative output from our agency. This role will ensure our agency strategizes and produces high-quality creative content for clients and oversee the entire creative team, including copywriters, creative ops and production associates.

The Creative Director must be highly imaginative and an effective manager of talent. You must balance the concerns and needs of stakeholders: the partners and owners of the ad agency, their clients, the account executives who work directly with clients, and the clients themselves.

Depending on the campaign, you may be heavily involved in the formation of ideas for copy and production from the very beginning and so may lead collaborative brainstorming sessions between departments to get the creative energy flowing. At other times, they may be more hands-off and provide feedback to the team members they asked to move a project forward.

Responsibilities

  • Develop advertising campaigns mainly focused in audio for clients from concept to completion
  • Translate marketing objectives into clear creative strategies
  • Ensure communication and brand standards are met
  • Oversee client creative pitches and proposals
  • Oversee profitability, deliverables, timelines, and budgets
  • Meet with clients to explain campaign strategies and solutions
  • Review work, troubleshoot and provide feedback to creative teams
  • Oversee the hiring, training and career development of creative staff
  • Assign projects to individual team members
  • Ensure all projects are on track creatively
  • Work collaboratively with those in-house as well as external brand partners
  • Work cooperatively with account executives and clients
  • Lead and direct the creative team in the production of marketing collateral

Requirements

  • 5+ years of related experience
  • Lead and inspire a team of people who are very creative and may be averse to taking direction
  • A solid background in copywriting is a must have
  • Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, PowerPoint, Excel, HTML is preferred
  • Occasional travel to meet with clients or attend industry-related events
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, English/Journalism, or related field
  • Proven portfolio preferred
  • Strong desire to learn industry best practices and trends
  • Excellent grammar and language skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are a must; you will be communicating with many different teams and clients
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, decision making, and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of media production and communication
  • Strong sense of leadership and project management skills
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and Google applications
  • Excellent follow-through
  • Works well under pressure as weekly responsibilities are time sensitive
  • Able to work autonomously or collectively in a high pressure environment
  • Highly organized and able to multitask and pivot quickly based on organization needs
  • Ability to lead and mentor a team
